Bojan jr. Momchilov
I was born in 1984 during the last years of communism in Sofia (Bulgaria) into a family of architects, scientists and artists. Both my parents studied at the Academy of Arts in Sofia and specialized in painting and ceramics.
Shortly before the fall of the Iron Curtain, they flee to Germany. Where I practically grow up in their studio and advertising agency. I am a self-taught photographer and painter. My works include altered photographs, drawings and digital surreal representations.
They represent a parallel universe which I feel is present in all living beings and things. In this sense, I see myself as a prism that breaks down my environment into its components in order to approach the core of every living being and thing.
I deal with people as beings in an economic system that is hostile to them and search between it for magical moments.
Why I do what I do
Through my work I have been exploring the essence of society, people, architecture and what seems obscure.
I am expressing the feeling of an eternal and unstable search. Do you know that tortured feeling in your chest?
The feeling that forces you to create and which gives you peace of mind only in the creative process.
This is a feeling between here and now and the untouchable that lies between a breath.
A kind of magic, esoteric or transcendental moment.
From my point of view, this special moment is present in every living being and thing. What others might describe as impenetrable.
This is what my pictures are about.
